Helping your holiday baking season be spooky good, deliciously stuffed, and cheerfully fun.
It’s baking time! Whether you bake for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or to fill the room with warmth of a baking oven and the smells of a homemade pumpkin pie, we’ve got inside tips to perfect baking.
#1: Start with room temperature eggs and butter
The ingredients at room temperature make it easier to bond with each other together plus the trapped air in them help produce fluffy baked finished products.
#2: Dealing with flour
When your recipe calls to mix flour— sift the flour instead of pouring it in. This will help us get out any lumps that may form. Want to make gluten free oat flour? Simply put the oats into a food processor or blender and you’ll have oat flour.
#3: Crimp pie crust
If you use a pie crust, use a fork and indent on the pie crust to give the pie a more unique design.
#4: Egg wash trick
Egg wash is a mix of one large eggs and 2 tablespoons of water mixed together. Take the egg wash and brush it on rolls, biscuits, and crusts right before you bake to make extra shiny.
#5: Chill cookie dough
Portion out your cookie dough and chill it for 3 days, it will help your cookie spread evenly while baking and intensifies their flavor.
#6: Dip cookie cutters in flour
Dipping cookie cutters in flour before cutting dough will help the cookies cut and keep the shape instead of sticking to the cookie cutter.
#7: Use every liquid ingredient
Spray a bit of cooking spray on measuring cup or spoon so every last drop of your liquid ingredients can be used.
#8: Coat chocolate chips with flour
If you’re adding chocolate chips or raisins and coat them with flour before adding them into the batter, this will help prevent these ingredients from sinking to the bottom.
#9: Grease and flour
A trick I was taught was to thoroughly grease and flour your cake pan so the cakes can slip out easily after cooling.
#10: Toasting nuts
Did you know that toasting nuts intensifies their flavor? Spread the nuts on a baking sheet in a single layer and toast for 400°F for about 10 minutes.
