Thanksgiving is one of the tastiest times of the year! If you’re looking for some inspiration on what dishes to cook, we’ve got you covered. From sweet to savory, here are six side dish ideas that will make your cooking the talk of the Thanksgiving table.
Mashed Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are always a fan favorite at the Thanksgiving table. We call this delicious side dish sweet potatoes, but they’re yams. This dish is creamy, sweet, and so easy to make. Roast your yams whole in the oven until they are cooked through and tender. Baking, rather than boiling your yams is preferred as they will condense and caramelize in the oven, adding superior flavor. Transfer baked yams into a large bowl, using a mixer, combine with melted butter, a bit of fresh whipping cream, maple syrup, nutmeg, and salt to taste. Top your seasoned yams with chopped pecans and serve.
Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Roasted Brussels sprouts are quick and easy, leaving plenty of time to mingle with your guests After roasting Brussels sprouts in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minutes, toss them with balsamic vinegar and honey or maple syrup once they’re out of the oven. If desired, top with crispy bacon.
Roasted Carrots with Dill
Roasted carrots are so simple to make and taste amazing. All you need is olive oil, and kosher salt to bring out the sweetness, pepper, and fresh dill. Combine all the ingredients except for the dill and roast in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes, remove from the oven sprinkle with fresh dill, and return to the oven for an additional 20 minutes. Place your carrots on a platter, sprinkle with a little more dill, and serve immediately.
Garlic Butter Corn
Here’s another simple dish that reaps big rewards. We like to use frozen corn and real butter for this one. Fresh garlic is preferred, but minced will work just fine. Feel free to measure with your heart on this one. Like we said, it’s simple. In a skillet sauté butter, garlic, and corn over medium heat. Once heated through, remove from heat and sprinkle with fresh parsley and parmesan, and voila! Your guest will be coming back for more.
Jalapeño Cornbread
This one is super simple and delicious! Take your favorite cornbread recipe and add one can of whole-kernel corn, half a cup of canned or jarred jalapeños, and one to two cups of cheddar cheese. Bake as directed and serve them hot out of the oven with butter or honey and enjoy!
Mac and Cheese
Depending on your level of expertise in the kitchen, baked mac n’ cheese recipes range from simple to complex, but you can’t go wrong no matter what recipe you choose. We suggest creating a roux to thicken your cheese sauce using one part fat and one part flour. This is considered the secret to creamy macaroni and cheese.
