New Stater Bros. Charities Brings Heroes adn Champions to the Inland Empire

Charity Pro-Am Golf Tournament will include Six Medal of Honor Recipients

San Bernardino, California (Thursday, January 31, 2008) - Stater Bros. Markets is pleased to announce the establishment of Stater Bros. Charities, a new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The new Stater Bros. Charities will support nonprofit organizations in the communities served by Stater Bros. Markets.

For Stater Bros. Charities first major fundraiser, Stater Bros. Chairman and CEO Jack H. Brown and long-time friend and PGA Champions Tour Pro Dave Stockton are partnering together to launch one of the largest and most far-reaching charity golf tournaments in the Inland Empire. Named “Stater Bros. Presents Dave Stockton’s Heroes With Hearts Challenge”, the tournament will take place on Monday, March 3rd, 2008 at Redlands Country Club. The field will be limited to 128 players who will compete for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and last place. Stockton likes to include a last place team at his events and says, “The fact that you would take part in this event to raise money for local charities makes you a winner in my book. That’s why I like to give a nice last place award.”

The “Heroes With Hearts Challenge” will include several of Stockton’s PGA Tour friends and will benefit four Inland Empire Charities: Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of the Inland Empire, VA Loma Linda Healthcare System, Operation SafeHouse and The Unforgettables Foundation.

In addition, Brown and Stockton have invited six Medal of Honor Recipients to participate in a weekend of events. One of the scheduled events will include a visit to the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial V.A. Hospital, where Stockton will be doing a golf clinic for veterans and patients.

Stockton’s resume in golf makes him one of the most accomplished PGA Golf Professionals, and his status as a local hero makes him the perfect host for a new Stater Bros. charity golf event. Dave Stockton turned professional in 1964 and joined the PGA Champions Tour after serving as Captain for the victorious Ryder Cup team in 1991 at Kiawah. He accrued 14 Champions Tour victories, including the U.S. Senior Open and twice winning the Ford Senior Players Championship. Stockton also claims 10 PGA Tour victories (winning the PGA Championship in both 1970 & 1976). He became well known in the 1970’s and 80’s for doing up to 90 corporate outings a year and was crowned “King of Corporate Outings” as a result. Recently, Stockton was named Assistant Captain for the 2008 Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Both Brown and Stockton were born and raised in San Bernardino, California and have been proud residents of the Inland Empire for most of their lives. Because of their close ties to the community, Brown and Stockton feel a great desire to give back to the Inland Empire.
